Winning With a Purpose (And How He Did It)
Sometimes it's fun to set small win goals with a specific purpose in mind.
Dice Coach provided a good example of this during the Dice Busters event this past June. The workshop always ends with a live casino session, and it was during that session that Dice Coach announced his goal. His plan was simple. He wanted to win enough money to buy a round of drinks for everyone during our debriefing meeting after the session.
With that goal in mind, he picked his entry spot into the game and placed his bets based on the flow of the table. He colored up when his chips reached a level that would cover everyone's drinks, plus enough for a sizeable tip for the dealers at the table. And I loved how he did it.
As is customary, I record all the rolls tossed during the Dice Buster live sessions. Here is my record of what was actually rolled (at the point of my entry at the craps table) during our Dice Busters 2016 live session:
- Shooter #1 - 4 8 9 6 12 5 8 11 8 7
- Shooter #2 - 5 9 9 4 7
- Shooter #3 - 6 10 6 8 10 7
- Shooter #4 - 7 8 8 8 6 5 3 5 9 10 4 9 10 5 8 5 3 9 9 6 6 5 2 10 12 3 8 8 10 6 6
9 5 9 6 4 11 5 8 7 (Shooter #4 had 40 rolls-4 passes for the fire bet.)
- Shooter #5 - 6 8 3 10 5 11 6 6 4 8 6 7 7 4 9 6 11 8 6 7
- Shooter #6 - 12 8 8 6 4 4 4 9 10 8 3 11 7
- Shooter #7 - 7 7 7 5 5 9 6 5 3 9 5 10 8 4 2 10 9 8 4 6 9 10 5 8 7
- Shooter #8 - 8 6 5 8 6 2 7
- Shooter #9 - 6 5 10 10 10 6 8 5 7
Our session lasted a little over 90 minutes, with 135 rolls - 6 come out natural 7's - 12 passes and 6 no passes.
This record gave us an overview of the flow and energy of the game. Watching the numbers as they roll allows us to see the dominant numbers, what numbers have not hit in some time, and if the sevens are out of probability. It also gives the students an opportunity to view their play and betting strategies to better discuss the changes they can make to improve their game
By watching the seven cycles and the numbers as they roll, it becomes painfully obvious where this game was going. By the fourth shooter the Coach jumped into the game to place the inside numbers, pressing every other hit. In this case, he employed a steep regression inside, taking four hits and then regressing to base units. When it appeared that the roll was headed in an unfavorable direction, he moved quickly to regress.
And there you have it. Drinks were on the Dice Coach - compliments of the game.
