    COACH'S CORNER

More than the Toss

One can hone his or her skills, but if you don't know how to bet -
what good are those skills?

I see this all of the time.  A shooter will get caught up in tossing a great hand, focusing only on the mechanics and the numbers rolling, but will forget to properly bet the hand.

Many of you have heard me say "Play in the moment!" and "Watch for the trends." Your mechanics (grip-set-toss) are very important to your game. But how you are betting is just as important. Watch what numbers are rolling and bet accordingly.

On a recent casino session with a student, I watched him roll eight- 8's in a row!  This student had $12.00 placed on the eight.  At the end of his roll, he still had only $12.00 on the eight.  His profit was $112.00.

Had he just pressed every other bet, he would have had a profit of $240.00 and would have a $192.00 place bet sitting on the eight.

In this case, when a new number is rolled, I would recommend going back to the original bet level of $12.00 to start over.  That way if the 7 rolls – you will have taken the $180.00 profit from the place bet on the 8, for a total profit of $420.00

In this scenario, the 8's (called crazy eights) were compensating for the number (6) or the sister number.  Don't press the (6) along with the (8) when the six is not rolling.  That move will only reduce your profits.

Bottom line, bet the numbers that are rolling and forget the numbers that are not.  Why have monies stuck on a number that is not rolling. You would be better off increasing your bets on the numbers that are rolling.

Some tips to remember when betting:

  • Don't get too aggressive at the beginning of your hand in case you have a short roll.
  • Qualify yourself, bet what is comfortable and within your bankroll.
  • If you question making a bet - you shouldn't make that bet.
  • Look for a reason to take your money off of the table; don't leave it in action until the seven shows.
  • Bet smart and you will increase you profits.

Hope this will help your game.  Let me know how this works for you.

See you in the pits.

Another 20 minute roll!  I think between that little modification and adopting your betting tactics, that this will work well in the long run.  Thanks again!  - Bill -
